Effective information dissemination and communication of policies and guidelines is key to a smooth and organized flow of operations of the institution. Furthermore, familiarization of the institution’s faculty, staff, and management helps the students adjust more easily to university life and ensure they experience their education in a fun learning environment.
With this in mind, the School of Dentistry held its annual general assembly and orientation for pre-clinical students and clinicians. The Dean, Dr. Ian Steve Bandaay spearheaded the event by welcoming the students to the University which was followed immediately by the introduction of faculty, staff, and officers of the student body. During this morning session, the students were informed of the policies and guidelines not only of the school but also of the different offices of the University. This includes the Office of Student Affairs (OSA), Library, Medical & Dental Clinic, Security Office, and Center for Counseling and Student Development (CCSD). The program chair, Dr. Stephanie Charleine Hernandez also provided clear admonition regarding the conduct of the students inside the premises of the university and what is expected of them in their educational journey.
Two guest speakers namely Dr. Jesher Nicolas and Dr. Nikko Liberato shared their experiences as alumni of the University and shared their insights on how the school helped them to become empowered professionals and become on top of their chosen career. These messages inspired and motivated the students to become the best that they can be. The afternoon session was catered to the incoming and current clinicians enrolled in clinical dentistry. Protocols regarding their conduct inside the Dental infirmary were discussed. Policies and guidelines governing the clinical requirements under Clinical dentistry were thoroughly discussed through a series of presentations of department heads, clinical instructors, and staff.
The success of the general assembly and orientation clearly shows the importance of effective communication and information dissemination. It is now clear to the students what is expected of them during their short stay in the university as they learn and hone new skills. Furthermore, the students will now be more secure and are more comfortable while they are in the university which ensures quality education in a fun-learning environment.
