UB student Agatha Camila Calcal Alsong from the School of Dentistry comes home decorated with medals after her successful journey at this year’s World Championship of Performing Arts. A gathering of aspiring performers from over seventy (70) countries from all over the world, the WCOPA is an excellent stage for those seeking to showcase their exceptional skills on a global stage. Ms. Alsong’s participation in the prestigious event has yielded a litany of awards, setting an important milestone in her incredible journey as a young artist.

In total, she entered the competition under four different categories: Latin, RnB, Pop, and Broadway. She earned herself a medal in each category, finishing with a Silver in Latin and RnB and a Bronze in Pop and Broadway. She also received a Plaque as the Division Champion in Latin, and was awarded a Scholarship for the New York Conservatory.
Her triumph highlights her capabilities as a budding young entertainer, which she has managed to maintain alongside her education. She serves as an inspiration for students who wish to pursue art and performance as a career or even just as a hobby, signifying that with time and dedication, one can achieve great things even as they study and further their academics in a higher education institution like UB.
“Sa mga gusto pong mag-join ng World Championships of Performing Arts or WCOPA, yung next audition niya po is October 2 po, sa SM. Open po siya. At ang maa-advice ko lang po sa kanila is yung Bible verse na Psalm chapter 2 verse 3: ‘You’re gonna make it, trust me’.”

Ms. Alsong encourages eager artists to join the next round of auditions for the WCOPA, which will be held on October 2, 2024 at Porta Vaga Mall. She believes that it is an incredible opportunity for any aspiring performer, and she believes that with enough hard work, one can achieve great things.
